The Problem
Chef Works is the the leading manufacturer of chef uniforms and chef wear programs within the food service and hospitality industries around the globe. Their accounting division recognized an opportunity to improve their collections and cash applications processes. To do this, Chef Works partnered with Optimize With Learning Solutions, an Atlanta-based e-Learning provider...and OWLS very kindly sought me out as their instructional designer for the project.
The goal was to creative two interconnected courses on using Excel for both collections and cash applications, zeroing in on the growth areas within the team. The courses needed to include video walk-throughs of all procedures, as well as opportunities for practice & assessment utilizing the Learning-Transfer Evaluation Model. Most importantly, the courses needed to be finalized and launched by early Fall of 2025 deadline so that the training could be completed by their next quarterly report.
The Solution
Working in close collaboration with Carolyn Greiner of OWLS and Jason Piske of Chef Works, I completed a training needs assessment and researched the needed concepts, then set about storyboarding and crafting the courses. This included two highly interactive courses produced on Storyline 360 featuring annotated screen recordings on Camtasia, as well as handouts on Microsoft Word and a practical assessment on Excel.
The courses were completed ahead of schedule, and I received one of the kindest compliments I have ever received: "You somehow managed to make Excel training somewhat interesting." OWLS also received a lovely shout-out from Jason on LinkedIn. It was a wonderful experience to work with both organizations, and I am excited to work with them again.
